Hello, I’m Joy Wood the owner of Pets Alone and I want to thank you for visiting the Pets Alone website.
I have always owned pets right throughout my life. As a young girl I had rabbits, fish, birds and tortoises and remember them all fondly – well, perhaps not so much the budgie that used to bite me.
It wasn’t until I left home that I was able to have my first cat – Smartie. Then came Bonnie and Clyde and later Domino followed by Bailey and Dooley. There were more rabbits – Thelma and Louise, then Rfa and later Shadow and Dennis. There was a fabulous little hamster called Pickles - because he was always getting himself into a fix and now I have Missie and Snowy. Along the way I also got my first dog Megan, a pure bred “Spollie” – who is my most faithful and loyal friend, and of course she’s spoilt rotten!
I spent 21 years working for NatWest Bank where customer service, confidentiality and discretion were paramount. For the past four years I have been working as a “Make It Happen Manager” for a company that provides focused thinking solutions and again, trust, discretion and relationship management have been a vital element of my role.
I have been actively involved in volunteer animal work for more than 5 years and find it thoroughly rewarding and enjoyable. I am a fund raiser for the R.S.P.C.A., a “Pets As Therapy” visitor with Megan at a local nursing home and a foster carer and dog walker for the Cinnamon Trust.
When an opportunity arose for me to follow my passion and my dream – to work with animals - I had no hesitation. I took the plunge, set up Pets Alone and now spend my time doing what I really want to do – fussing animals, walking dogs and helping people – life doesn’t get much better than this!
I am fortunate enough to be helped out by my friend and fellow Christian, Hilary Cole. Hilary has loads of experience with animals and is currently studying for a BTEC National Award in Animal Management, which covers areas such as animal behaviour, animal welfare and working with cats and dogs.
